Judy Kirkland

The mid-19th century landscape painters of the Hudson River School were influenced by Romanticism and depicted American wilderness in new ways. They typically painted the Hudson River Valley and the surrounding area including Catskill, Adirondack, and White Mountains.

Judy Kirkland, an accomplished artist, will present a lively talk on this American art movement on Tuesday Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Clubhouse II Auditorium. She has an art history degree from the University of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the President of Leisure World’s Rossmoor Art Guild.

Come learn:  What makes an art movement?  What was new? How did it fit into history? How did it change history?  See the wonderful paintings by Thomas Cole, the founder of the movement, and the two generations of artists who contributed to this art movement.  Their sublime paintings are characterized by their expansive scale, great depth, awesome light, and detailed nature.

This free presentation is sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) and residents are asked to register beginning January 7, by calling or visiting the Lifestyle office in Clubhouse I or II.
